Equal weights of methane and hydrogen are mixed in an empty container at 25 C. the fraction of total pressure exerted by the hydrogen is?

answer is 1/9

i want to know that how to find out this answer thanks?

1/8 + 1 = 1/9? I don't think so.

1/8 + 1 = 1/8 + 8/8 = 9/8 :-0

it might be 1/(8+1) and he/she must be missing () brackets

You are right. 1/8 + 1 is not 1/9.

@DrBob222 , exactly Sir, i don't know why they are designing such way to meaningless questions

@DrBob222 , someone solved it like this way but i was also wondering that how he got 1/9 :/ , these questions come in our MCAT , and have weird testing pattern, even many of students fail to answer such deep questions , we are given only 1 min to solve such questions .

you have to compare mole relations...

assume 100 grams of each
moles of H2=50
mole methane=100/16)=about6.25
total moles=56.25

ratio of H2 to total moles: 6.25/56.25=1/9

@bobpursley , thanks , but what if we solve it like this bro.

= ch4 has 16 molar mass, h2 has 2 molar mass, 1 mol ch4 contains 8 mol H2 .

= moles of ch4 / moles of h2 + moles of ch4

= 1 / 8 + 1
= 1/9

answer in theoretical form.

is it okay?
