In your own words, define environmental sustainability. Then, list three behaviors of your own that threaten environmental sustainability. How could you change those behaviors to reduce threats to environmental sustainability?

Environmental sustainability is meeting current needs without jeopardizing the needs of the future. In essence, it entails the air that we breath, the water that we drink and a suitable climate.

Below are the three behaviors of my own that threaten environmental sustainability: Use of plastic bags, purchase of products that are not recycleable and use of toxic chemicals for my lawn.

In order to change those behaviors that will help reduce threats to environmental sustainability, everyone will need to take serious action by avoiding to use physical resources, use recycle products, drive less, and use renewable instead of depletable resources.

This is good so far, Rose.

But I think you need to expand what YOU are going to do to help the environment. What are you going to use to carry your groceries and other purchases home from the stores? What plans do you have for recycling cans, bottles, plastics, and paper? What will you use instead of toxic chemicals on your lawn?

To change my behavior of using plastic bags, I could switch to using reusable bags made from materials such as cloth or jute. These bags can be used multiple times and help to reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills or oceans.

To address my behavior of purchasing non-recyclable products, I could become more conscious of the materials used in the products I buy. I can prioritize purchasing items that are recyclable or made from recycled materials. Additionally, I can look for products with minimal packaging or packaging made from sustainable materials.

To change my behavior of using toxic chemicals for my lawn, I could explore alternatives such as organic or natural fertilizers and pest control methods. These alternatives are less harmful to the environment and can still help maintain a healthy lawn. Additionally, practicing proper lawn care techniques such as proper watering and mowing can contribute to a healthier lawn without the need for excessive chemical use.

Overall, changing these behaviors requires a shift in mindset and conscious decision-making. It's important to consider the environmental impact of our actions and make choices that prioritize the long-term sustainability of our planet. By making these changes, we can contribute to a more environmentally sustainable future.
