  1. well, sure, but there is much more to it.
    As you stated the problem:
    x = (1/2) a t^2

    so
    a = 2 x/t^2
    or
    t = sqrt (2 x/a)

    but that is a gross oversimplification of what is going on with constant acceleration a

    if a = some constant acceleration

    v = Vi + a t where Vi is initial velocity

    x = Xi + Vi t + (1/2) a t^2
    where Xi is initial x position and x is the new x at time t
