  1. If you draw a diagram, and mark the spot on the rim, you can draw a radius to the point. That radius will be the hypotenuse of a triangle, such that

    (r-1)^2 + (r-8)^2 = r^2
    so, r=13

    Hence, the diameter is 26 inches
