Sally buys a hand bag. There is a

discount of 30%. IF Sally paid $20, what was the original price?

28.57

I'm in 7th grade and we had this on my homework for tonight. At first I was confused but don't worry just take it one step at a time. My math teacher said work opposite and divide 20/30% but you get 66.67 which isn't a choice.. The only choice that is left is 28.57 but I'll post how they got the answer tomorrow❤️

To find the original price of the handbag, we can use the information given, which is the discount percentage and the amount Sally paid.

The discount percentage is 30%, which means Sally only paid 70% of the original price.

Let's assume the original price is represented by "x". Then we can set up an equation to solve for x:

(x * 70%) = $20

To solve for x, we need to get rid of the percentage. To do this, we convert 70% to its decimal form by dividing it by 100:

0.70 * x = $20

Now we can isolate x by dividing both sides of the equation by 0.70:

x = $20 / 0.70

Evaluating the right side of the equation:

x ≈ $28.57

Therefore, the original price of the handbag was approximately $28.57.

p(1-.30) = 20.00

Now just solve for p
