how do you write a proposal? I am working on a journal entry, and it says to write a proposal in your journal for a volunteer service project that you would like to create to address the problem of your choice such as a problem in my community, which I chose distracted driving.

Read, read, read ... and let us know what you find out.

Ok so I start off and put at the top the objective, then next I put the facts, then next I put the goals, and lastly the solution.

And I set it up like this:
The objective:
blah blah blah
The facts:
blah blah blah

Be sure to state the problem you are trying to address. That statement needs to be "just the facts" -- just a statement of what is. The "what should be" comes later.

Also be sure to include clearly who this project is intended to benefit.

You need to go back and read SEVERAL of those samples in the link I gave you (which should have taken you longer than 2 minutes!!), to make sure you aren't leaving anything out.

ok so i should take out the state the facts and put the facts in the objective?

The facts (what is) are what lead up to your objective.

Your goal is the outcome you expect to accomplish ... the long-range goal.

Your objectives are the steps you plan in sequence to reach your goal.

Ok so I written out a page with my organizations name, what we aim to accomplish, the facts of distracted driving, what we can do as a community to prevent it, and the solution which was to help people understand the dangers of the cognitive distraction to the brain, to promote safe driving and lessen the number of accidents caused by distracted driving, and more.

I also added facts in there too, not opinions. I gave exact organization names, laws, percentages of how many people were injured and killed each year, etc.

"... solution which was to help people understand the dangers of the cognitive distraction to the brain, to promote safe driving and lessen the number of accidents caused by distracted driving,"

I know this is just a journal entry and that a real proposal would be far more detailed, but keep in mind that, although it's wonderful to say, "to help people understand" and "to promote" something, in the real proposal you would need to state concrete, detailed steps you'd take to reach each objective.

As a journal entry, it's probably fine ... if you ever develop this as a real proposal, be ready to get specific!!

yeah I understand that's why I was so confused because it just says write one page out, and since its not an exact proposal letter, its a proposal in a journal entry, I tried making it short and simple, to fit into the journal. In my goals I explained how to promote distracted driving such as hosting local events about distracted driving, hanging up awareness posters, schools can host SADD chapters, because 16% of distracted driving crashes involve drivers under 20. Also, there should be tougher penalties, higher fines, and suspension of driver's license.

Good. This means that you have a good start if you ever decided to fully develop this or any other proposal!
