  1. To get a sonic boom in air the "jet" must travel faster than the speed of sound in air. For air that is about 343 m/s. The "jet" fish would need to travel faster than the speed of sound in water. At 25C the speed of sound in fresh water is about 1497 m/s or about 1560 m/s in sea water but that changes with T, salinity, pressure, and amount of sediment.
