An artistic representation of different number sequences presented as physical objects. Sequence 1 is symbolized by five objects increasing in size placed linearly on a grassy plain, subtly depicting arithmetic progression (like 14, 19, 24, 29...). Sequence 2 shows an alternating pattern of four small and large objects floating in the sky, illustrating geometric progression (-4, 8, -16, 32...). Sequence 3 displays decreasing blocks stacked in a spiraling stairway form (81, 27, 9, 3...). Lastly, two large figures symbolize arithmetic and geometric sequences, with linearly placed objects showing a common difference and a consecutive pattern of objects forming an exponential growth.

Determine whether each sequence is arithmetic or geometric. Find the next three terms.

1.
14, 19, 24, 29, . . . (1 point)

geometric, 34, 39, 44
arithmetic, 32, 36, 41
arithmetic, 34, 39, 44 ***
The sequence is neither geometric nor arithmetic.

2.
–4, 8, –16, 32, . . . (1 point)

arithmetic, 64, 128, 256
geometric, –64, 128, –256 ***
geometric, –48, 64, –80
The sequence is neither geometric nor arithmetic.

3.
81, 27, 9, 3, . . . (1 point)

arithmetic, 0, –3, –6
geometric, 0, –3, –6
geometric, 1, one-third, one-ninth***
The sequence is neither geometric nor arithmetic.

4. What are the first four terms of an arithmetic sequence if the common difference is 1.5 and the first term is 15? (1 point)

a. 15, 30, 45, 60
b. 15, 16.5, 18, 19.5***
c. 15, 22.5, 33.75, 50.625
d. none of the above

5. What are the first four terms of a geometric sequence if the common ratio is 10 and the first term is 4.5? (1 point)

a. 4.5, .45, .045, .0045
b. 4.5, 9.0, 13.5, 18.0
c. 4.5, 14.5, 24.5, 34.5
d. none of the above

i dunno if #5 is a. or d.
pls help asap!!!!!
thanx in advance

D

For those of you working on Unit 5 Functions Lesson 1 Sequences, the answers are:

1. C
2. B
3. C
4. B
5. D

Okay instead of just giving the letters right out the answers. Got it, so I got an 80% with idk whos answers(Thanks whoever was wrong, you made me second guess my answers). I would of gotten a 100 had I not second guessed myself. So here are the right (written) answers. So as of 2019.

1.C- Arithmetic, 34, 39, 44
2.B- Geometric, -64, 128, -256
3.C- Geometric, 1, 1/3, 1/9
4.B- 15, 16.5, 18, 19.5
5.D- None of the above
Here are the right answers as of 2019.

Mr.Flitcher is right

#1-4 all ok

#5. What's the trouble? Start with 4.5 and start multiplying by 10's. (D) since you get
4.5 45 450 4500 ...

(a) is common ratio of 0.1

sorry to be sooooo impatient :(

ok, i wasn't sure, for a second i thought it was a.

thanks Steve!:)

All correct except 5

#5 is d

4 is B for me but for my brother it was C. I think they have gotten even trickier by changing up quick checks now! Sad. They will pay -_-

if yours match up then...

1. C- arithmetic, 34, 39, 44
2. B- geometric, -64, 128, -256
3. C- geometric, 1, 1/3, 1/9
4. B- 15, 30, 45, 60
5. D- none of the above
