The chef has 25 pounds of strip loin. The trim loss on the strip loin is 35% amd the cooking loss is 80% of the trimmed weight. How many pounds of trimmed, cooked strip loin will the chef have left to serve to his customers?

(35/100)25 = 8.75 pounds of trim loss, then (80/100)8.75 = 7 pounds of cooking loss, so total loss is 15.75 pounds of meat. So total amount the chef has left to serve is 25-15.75 = 9.25 pounds

the cooking loss is 80% ??? that does not sound right but if you are serious then

25 * (1-.35) (.2)= 25*.65*.2 = 3.25 pounds

I don't know what I am doing wrong but I multiplied 25•65=1625 now I am stuck

You forgot the decimal point. It's 16.25 pounds.

I agree with Damon that an 80% cooking loss can not be right.

25 * .65 = 16.25

25 * 0.65 * 0.2 = 3.25

but I do not believe that 0.2. I think you have the loss 80% when it should be like 20%

I agree with you guys but thank you for the info! I appreciate it very much! :) have a nice night!

You are welcome, good luck.
