  1. Here are some really good sites on identifying types of words/phrases/clauses and what purpose they serve in a sentence:

    http://www.chompchomp.com/menu.htm
Click on TERMS and then choose what you think you need.

    http://www.uottawa.ca/academic/arts/writcent/hypergrammar/grammar.html
Use the appropriate links in the list at the left to help you.

    http://members.cox.net/lenco1/grammarpractice/
Again, choose from the list at the left.

I'll start you off with your first sentence. Then you try some and one of us here will give you feedback.

    1. "that you intend" = relative clause, acting as an adjective, modifying "message"

Let us know what you think about the others.

  3. 2. You may transmit different (messages) with the same words.==adjectibe
Do you mean adjective? This is incorrect.

    3. Your emotions may affect (how listeners receive your message),==adverb clause
No, it's a noun clause. How is it used in the sentence? If you don't remember basic sentence structure, be sure to go to the Hypergrammar link I gave you above.

    4. A positive tone (projects) a positive ( image)==verb == noun clause
The word "projects" is a verb, yes, in this sentence. The word "image" is not a clause; be sure to go back and read the definition of a clause.

    5. Audibilty (includes) both the pitch (and) volume of your voice.==verb==prepositional phrase
The word "includes" is a verb, yes; the word "and" is definitely not any kind of phrase. Go back and read the definitions and parts of speech again.

The word "you" is not a noun; go back and read about the parts of speech again.

A gerund phrase, yes! ("Varying" is the actual gerund.) Good! And it's serving as the subject of the sentence.

    8. (Although this is your first formal presentation,) you have worked hard to ge information.==participial phrase
Not a participal phrase, no. There are no participles in there nor is is a phrase. Go back and re-read about clauses and phrases again.

9.I am sure (that you will do a great job!)==infinitive phrase
Not an infinitive phrase, no. Infinitives are the "to..." form of a verb: to walk, to sing, to do, etc. Go back and read about phrases and clauses.

    Re-post whenever you're ready.
