State the mathematical relationship between the net force acting on an object and the time taken to change the objects momentum

  1. F = d/dt (mv)
    in other words force is rate of change of momentum (in the special case of constant mass this is F = m a)

    F * change in time = change of momentum

    This is usually called "impulse".
