Oh, yes. The scare didn't go away until after the war. Bunkers and gun emplacements can still be found along the coast at San Francisco, intended to defend against a Japanese invasion.

In January of 1942 my mother and I flew from Pearl Harbor to San Francisco. People in California were much more scared than those of us on Oahu.
