1. He brought me a book.

2. I was brought a book by him.
3. A book was brought to me by him.
4. A book was brought me by him.

Is #4 better than #3?
Is #2 right? In a book, it is right. In another book, the verb bring can't be used that way as in #2. Which one is right?

None are improper grammar as far as I can see. #1 is by far the best written, though. The others are just awkward. #4 is one I would not use at all. The preposition "to" is implied, but not stated ("to me"), so it's even more awkward. #2 is also particularly awkward. Simple is best, so #1 is best.
