I need help. This is an example problem, but i am having trouble finding the answer to all problems like this. I came up with 50 something as my answer. That is NOT an option. Please help!!!

this is the example problem.
If a pair of jeans costs 39.50 dollars, then you add 5% sales cost, how much do they cost now???

A) 37.95 (Not this one, the price went down)
B)40.95 (It may be this one, but i am stiking with c for no. But, if it is wrong, i know the answer is this one. :) Thank you!!!!)
C) 41.48 (Is it this one? This is my answer.)
D) 1.98 ( Not this one, the price went WAY down!)

1.05($39.50) = 41.48

Ok. Thank you!

How didi you find the amount of tax though?

distributive property of multiplication

price = x
tax = 0.05 x which is 5%/100 of x

1 x + .05 x = (1+.05) x = 1.05 x

To find the final cost of the jeans after adding the sales cost, you need to calculate 5% of the initial cost and add it to the initial cost.

Step 1: Find 5% of $39.50
To find 5% of a value, multiply that value by 0.05 (5% = 0.05).

0.05 x $39.50 = $1.975

Step 2: Add the sales cost to the initial cost
Add the value calculated in Step 1 to the initial cost.

$39.50 + $1.975 = $41.475

So, the final cost of the jeans after adding the 5% sales cost is approximately $41.48.

Therefore, the correct answer is C) $41.48.
