Does this sentence mean #1 or #2?
1.He is sleeping.
2. He is going (to his room) so that he may sleep.

It might also mean that he has already gone to bed but is not yet asleep. Of the choices you list, the second is best.

3. He went to sleep a while ago.

(Does this mean that he was sleeping and he is sleeping? Or does this mean that he went to his room to sleep....and we don't know whether he is sleeping or not?)
