This question says to graph the linear function.y=1\3x-4. What would the graph look like?
Thank you Reiny but they put me in this class and I can not figure out what to do. When I am for help they are always to busy to help me my mom when talked with the principal and she don't know what to do either. I'm sorry to have to ask.

Two points make a line. So what we'll do is get any 2 values for x, and get their corresponding y-value.
For instance, take x = 3.
Substituting this to the linear equation,
y = 1/3x - 4
y = 1/3 * 3 - 4
y = 1 - 4
y = -3
Therefore, a point on the line is (3,-3)
Another point, take x = 6.
Substitute:
y = 1/3x - 4
y = 1/3 * 6 - 4
y = 2 - 4
y = -2
Therefore, a point on the line is (6,-2)
Now you have points (3,-3) and (6,-2). Get a graphing paper and plot these points. Connect these points, extend the line on both ends, and draw an arrowhead on each end.
If still confused, go to wolframalpha . com and type in " plot y = 1/3x - 4 ". It will show you the graph.
