Of 100 students surveyed, 33 like orange soda, 55 like cola, and 14 like both. How many students do NOT like orange soda?

My answer=67.

Am I correct?

33+55-14 = 74 students liked something

That means 26 liked nothing

So, the number not liking orange is 26+(76-33) = 69

How did you arrive at 67?

As usual, check my math

Hi,

Since 100 students were surveyed and only 74 mentioned liking either of the sodas, that leaves 26 liking neither.

When I made the venn diagram, I subtracted 14 from 55 (cola) and came up with 41. I added 41 and 26 and got 67 students that did not like orange soda.

Hope this helps!

its 41 actually . this is more of a riddle than it is a math question. normally you would think to just subtract but its more complicated than that. we know that there is more to the question because 33, 55 & 14 don't add up to 100.

here's what we know..
14 of the 55 people that like cola also like orange soda.
the rest don't.
14 of the 33 people that like orange soda also like cola.
the rest don't.

meaning that to answer this question we have to subtract 14 from 55.
your answer is 41.

Yes, your answer of 67 is correct. To find the number of students who do not like orange soda, you can use the principle of inclusion-exclusion.

According to the given information, 33 students like orange soda, 55 students like cola, and 14 students like both orange soda and cola.

To find the number of students who do not like orange soda, we need to subtract the number of students who like both orange soda and cola from the total number of students who like cola.

Total number of students who like cola = 55
Number of students who like both orange soda and cola = 14

Therefore, the number of students who only like cola is:
55 (total number of students who like cola) - 14 (number of students who like both) = 41

Since the students who do not like orange soda are those who only like cola, the number of students who do not like orange soda is 41.

To find the total number of students who do not like orange soda, you can subtract the number of students who like orange soda from the total number of students surveyed:

Total number of students surveyed = 100
Number of students who like orange soda = 33

Therefore, the number of students who do not like orange soda is:
100 (total number of students surveyed) - 33 (number of students who like orange soda) = 67

Hence, your answer of 67 is correct.
