Methane burns with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water as a gas. The balanced thermochemical equation is

Ch4(g) + 2)2(g) ---> CO2(g) + 2H2O(g)
H = -802kJ
How much methane, in grams, must be burned to release 544 kJ of heat?

My answer:
544/802 = 0.678
0.678*16= 10.848g CH4

    Your right is probably correct -- unless you're left-handed.

    thermochemical equation:
    CH4(g) + 2O2(g) ---> CO2(g) + 2H2O(g)

    My calculator gives me 10.85 which I would round to 10.8 to three significan figures. Your set up is correct.
