Tom buys $22.00 plus 7% sales tax. His cousin buys a shirt for $18.00 plus 4% sales tax.

a. How much do Tom and his cousin pay for the shirts? Show your work

b. Who spent more on tax?

I don't know what I'm suppose to do here. Am I suppose to multiply the percents that I turn into decimal? Or do I divide? What do I do? Can y'all show me? Please!

For part a I got

Tom= 22 × 0.07= 1.54 + 22.00 = $23.54~ ~ Cousin= 18× 0.04= 0.72 + 18.00= $18.72

TA DAAAA!!!

But they said plus so...it's probably multiplying.

Multiplying: Tom= 1.54+ 22.00= 23.54
Cousin= 0.72+ 18.00= 18.72

Tom spent more on tax right? I think I'm right. Am I Ms. Sue?

You did it yourself! :-)

tom did

So Tom spent more tax?
