Use the discriminant to determine the nature of the roots.

1. 2x^2+5x-3=0

2. -x^2+x+1=0

  1. Damon

    b^2-4ac

    5^2 -4(2)(-3)
that will be positive and therefore its square root is a real number. Thus two real roots, nothing imaginary about it

    1^2 - 4(-1)(1)
everything positive again, two real roots
