For one of my homework assignments I had to read 3 different narratives. I then had to choose one of the narrative essays that I had read and explain what the point is with that essay.

Can you please read over my answer and let me know if their are any grammatical errors that I may have over looked.

The Fourth of July

After reading the excerpt from Audre Lorde’s autobiography, Zami: A New Spelling of My Name (1982), I felt many different emotions; Anger, sadness and empathy filled my heart. Audre’s story was about the summer she had to grow up. It was not in the sense that one would think of. It was about the realities of her time. A time when African Americans were still not accepted as equals. A part of her life that her family had either keep from her or blatantly chosen to disregard that fact. The part that hurt was the fact that it was a trip during the Fourth of July. The Fourth of July should be a time of celebration for our countries freedom. Not a time when some of our nations people do not feel as if they are part of that freedom. A reality that after that summer she would be force her to grow up from her childhood fantasies and come to the realization of the reality in which she lived in. A time when not all were treated equal and life was never fair. Audre’s great realization of life was a hard hitting reality of what challenges her life was about to entail.
