Story Question

Judd's heart felt like it was shattering into a million tiny pieces as he kissed Laura goodbye on the last day of summer camp. The school year seemed to crawl by at a snail's pace. He spent that time writing letters to her every day and dreaming about her every night. When June 3rd finally rolled back around, he had packed something very special into his summer camp suitcase—something he had been saving up for all year.

So this may be a weird question, I had this excerpt in my homework today, and I was curious if this is from an actual story, or if this is just a short piece. Thank you.
