18. What is the simpler form of the following expression?

(6x^3 - 1x +1) divided by (2x + 1)

-3x^2 + 2x - 1
3x^2 - 2x + 1
-3x^2 + 2x - 1
3x^3 + 2x - 1

19. Solve the equation.

1/2x + 14 - 9/x + 7 = -6

x = - 101/12
x = 101/12
x = - 67/12
x = 67/12

20. The time t required to drive a certain distance varies inversely with the speed, r. If it takes 4 hours to drive the distance at 40 miles per hour, how long will it take to drive the same distance at 55 miles per hour?

about 2.91 hours
about 160.00 hours
about 22.00 hours
about 5.50 hours

Please help me!!!

omg thank you Steve, I posted anther post like this that asked for you but you don't have to answer it because you just did. I wish I could give you a reward like on open study. thank you.

Can someone help me?

Steve you never gave me syntehtic division site before tho..

the link worked thanls ;)

thanks

#18 - did you try this at the syntehtic division site I gave you?

You can see polynomial long division at calc101.com; click on the "long division" button.

If you meant

1/(2x + 14) - 9/(x + 7) = -6
then that's just
1/(2x+14) - 18/(2x+14) = -6
-17/(2x+14) = -6
-17 = -6(2x+14)
-17 = -12x - 84
67 = -12x
x = -67/12

The time t required to drive a certain distance varies inversely with the speed, r.

That means that tr is a constant
So, since t=40 when r=40, tr=160
When r = 55, then,

55t = 160
t = 2.9
