I can't figure out this question. I tried asking my classmates and teacher, but no help. Except one girl but I didn't understand.

Can you help me?

Question; A person who weighs 130 pounds can burn about 300 calories per hour skateboarding. Write a function that relates the calories burned, c, to the number of hours, h, spent skateboarding. Identify the independent and dependent variable. Create a function table for values of h equal to 1, 2, 3, and 4. Graph the function on a coordinate plane.

Just explain...I don't want the answer, just explain how to do it?

Thanks

Cass

I am guessing you Go to Connections academy. if so, please respond.

Here is how you do it.

X|1 hr|2 hr|3 hr|4 hr|
---------------------
300 c|?c | ?c | ?c |

function is easy
multiply each hour by the number of possible calories to be burned.

C=X*300

Hope this helped

Oh why, I feel like a total idiot now. LOL it really is simple. Thanks for explaining that. And I do go there.

Thanks a lot!!

Cass

Who is your math teacher? I have Mr.Ryan:)

I only have a homeroom teacher, Mrs. Manthey../.\

Of course, Cass! I'd be happy to explain how to approach this question.

To create a function that relates the calories burned (c) to the number of hours spent skateboarding (h), we need to first understand the relationship between these variables.

The question states that a person who weighs 130 pounds can burn about 300 calories per hour of skateboarding. This gives us the information we need to create the function.

Let's break it down step by step:

1. Identify the independent and dependent variables:
- The independent variable is the "number of hours spent skateboarding" (h). This is the input or the variable that we can control.
- The dependent variable is the "calories burned" (c). This is the output or the variable that depends on the value of the independent variable.

2. Write the function:
- In this case, the function is a linear relationship because the calories burned (c) are directly proportional to the number of hours (h) spent skateboarding.
- We can write the function as: c = 300h
This means the calories burned (c) is equal to 300 times the number of hours (h) spent skateboarding.

3. Create a function table:
- To create a function table, plug in different values of h and calculate the corresponding value for c.
- In this case, we need to fill in the table for values of h equal to 1, 2, 3, and 4.
- For each value of h, calculate c by multiplying it with 300.

h | c
--|--
1 | 300
2 | 600
3 | 900
4 | 1200

4. Graph the function:
- To graph the function, plot the points from the function table on a coordinate plane.
- Put the number of hours (h) on the x-axis and the calories burned (c) on the y-axis.
- Connect the plotted points with a straight line since the relationship is linear.

I hope this explanation helps you understand how to approach this question. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!
