This depends what kind of investments. Most investments depend on special knowledge, and are not illegal. The only illegal investment decisions I know of are stock purchases/sales of publicly traded companies, the salse/purchases of which are based on "insider" infomration. Other facts not public are OK, like you observed something, or saw something, or whatever.
