hi, thanks for your response. I should clarify further the prof does not want a financial analysis more like key events external and internal, and see how the company reacted to these events. She wants to use emergent/historical analysis. I just don't understand the format like how i should start the paper and how i incorporate all of those things in 3 pages

A historical analysis paper is a type of academic writing that aims to examine and evaluate historical events, people, or developments. It requires you to research and analyze primary and secondary sources to understand the context, causes, and effects of the subject you are studying. When writing a historical analysis paper on Research in Motion (now known as BlackBerry Limited), here are some important aspects to include:

1. Introduction: Begin with an introductory paragraph that provides background information on Research in Motion (RIM), such as its establishment date, key figures, and its significance in the technological landscape.

2. Thesis Statement: Clearly state your thesis statement, which should articulate the main argument or perspective you will be presenting in your paper. For example, "This paper aims to analyze the rise and decline of Research in Motion in the mobile device industry by examining its innovative products, market strategies, and challenges faced."

3. Historical Context: Discuss the historical backdrop in which RIM operated. Evaluate the technological landscape and the state of the mobile device industry during the time period you are focusing on. Consider factors such as competition, consumer preferences, and advancements that influenced RIM's operations.

4. Company History: Provide a comprehensive overview of RIM's history, including its founding, key milestones, and major products. Trace the evolution of its mobile devices, such as the BlackBerry, and explore how they impacted the market and user experiences.

5. Market Strategies: Analyze and evaluate RIM's marketing strategies, including product positioning, target audience, pricing, and promotion. Examine how the company marketed its products and established a brand identity.

6. Innovations and Technological Advancements: Highlight the technological innovations pioneered by RIM, such as the introduction of wireless email, QWERTY keyboards, and data encryption. Discuss the impact of these innovations on the mobile device industry and how they affected RIM's market position.

7. Challenges and Decline: Investigate the challenges, such as increasing competition from rivals (e.g., Apple and Android), product limitations, and strategic missteps, that contributed to RIM's decline. Evaluate how these factors affected the company's market share, financial performance, and reputation.

8. Impact and Legacy: Explore the lasting influence of RIM and its contribution to the development of the mobile device industry. Discuss any significant impacts it had on communication technologies, business practices, or user experiences.

9. Conclusion: Summarize your findings, restate your thesis, and offer a concluding analysis of RIM's rise and decline. Reflect on the historical significance and lessons that can be learned from its trajectory.

Remember, an effective historical analysis paper relies on thorough research, critical analysis of sources, and a coherent narrative that presents a well-supported argument. Use a combination of primary sources (e.g., official documents, speeches, interviews) and secondary sources (e.g., scholarly articles, books) to support your claims and provide a comprehensive view of the subject.
