Has anyone here read A Retrieved Reformation? I have to write a dramatic scene about a conflict in that story. What conflicts can I use?

I haven't read this, but here's my take on the assignment. The first conflict in any story is usually pretty powerful, as is whatever happens just before the climax. Choose from those.
