A bag of buttons contains 3 red, 4 orange, 7 green and 10 blue battens. How many orange buttons should be added so that makes up 1/4 of the total? (Remember, if you add more orange buttons, your total buttons will also increase.)

Pla help due tomorrow

I think you have an error in this problem. No one has found your solution.

total now = 24

let the number of oranges to be added be x

so (4+x)/(24+x) = 1/4
16 + 4x = 24+x
3x = 8
x = 8/3

8/3 buttons ???

Questions is flawed, check your data or your typing.

6/24 is 25%, not 6/26

we need

(4+x)/(24+x) = 1/4
16+4x = 24+x
3x=8
eh? we need an integer solution. I suspect a typo.

Thanks everyone! I just checked teacher's newsletter. She mentioned in her newsletter that was a typo error in printed homework sheet. It is a 1/3 not 1/4.

I got it now! Answer is total 10 orange button.
again I really appreciate your time and help.

To solve this problem, you need to find the total number of buttons in the bag and then determine how many orange buttons should be added to make up 1/4 of the total.

First, let's calculate the total number of buttons in the bag by summing up the quantities of each color:

Total buttons = 3 red + 4 orange + 7 green + 10 blue

Total buttons = 24

Now, we need to find out how many orange buttons should be added to make up 1/4 of the total buttons. Since 1/4 is equivalent to 1 out of every 4, we can calculate it as follows:

1/4 * Total buttons = (1/4) * 24

1/4 * Total buttons = 6

This means we need 6 orange buttons to make up 1/4 of the total buttons.

However, remember that adding more orange buttons will increase the total number of buttons. Therefore, the final answer will be the sum of the initial quantity of orange buttons (4) and the additional orange buttons needed (6).

Therefore, you should add 6 orange buttons to the bag.
