I have to subtract 1.- 0.98765= I think it should be 1.98765 but I used the calculator to see if it was right and I get 0.01235 don't understand how that could be right?

It's right.

Think of the problem as money.

1. = $1.00

Take 99 cents away from a dollar and you have 1 cent left.

Ok Thank you so then 2.4- 2.3999 would be .0001 or just 1?

It's 0.0001.

THANK YOU MISS SUE :)

You're welcome.

To subtract decimal numbers like 1 and 0.98765, you align the decimal points and subtract digit by digit.

Here's how you can do it step by step:

1. Start by aligning the decimal points:
1.00000
- 0.98765

2. Beginning from the rightmost digit, subtract the corresponding digits:
1.00000
- 0.98765
________
0.01235

The answer comes out to be 0.01235, not 1.01235 as you initially thought. This is because the digits after the decimal point have a greater value than the digits before the decimal point. Hence, subtracting 0.98765 from 1 gives you a result that is less than 1. The correct result is 0.01235.

If you used a calculator and obtained the answer of 0.01235, then that is the correct result. Calculators are programmed to perform arithmetic operations accurately, so you can trust the answer it provides.
