how can i reword this differently

Free will is God’s indispensable gift to humanity, and we must allow ourselves to be open to salvation in light of the choices we make.

    ... humanity; therefore, we must ... salvation.

    It's very wordy. My suggestion includes getting rid of the excessive words.
