find the value of x

8-2x=1 and 1/5

how do you solve it, can you explain and then give me examples to try on my own thnx.

8-2x=1 and 1/5

-2x = -8 + 1 1/5

-2x = - 6 4/5

x = (-6 4/5) / -2

x = -3 2/5

i got 5 3/5 what did i do wrong?

check

8 - 2 x = 6/5

2 x = 40/5 - 6/5

2 x = 34/5

x = 17/5

x = 3 2/5

2 x = 40/5 - 6/5

why did you get 40/5

do you multiple 8x5 if so how come you didn't multiply 6x5

because I wanted a common denominator of 5

(8/1)(5/5) = 40/5

I already had 6/5 to subtract from that 40/5

and leave 34/5

I think our fellow use to simplify the arithmetics coz 40/5=8 so nothing was changed.then lets solve it correctly

8-2x =1 1/5 to get 6/5 u take denominator times the whole number plus the numerator(5*1)+1 the answer will be written over the as the new numerator dat 6/5
2x=40/5 - 6/5
2x=34/5
x=34/10
x=3 and 4/10 or simplified to 3 and 2/5.

To find the value of x in the equation 8 - 2x = 1 and 1/5, we need to isolate x by following these steps:

Step 1: Simplify the equation if possible. In this case, 1 and 1/5 can be converted to a fraction: 1 and 1/5 = 6/5.

So the equation becomes: 8 - 2x = 6/5.

Step 2: Get rid of any fractions by multiplying both sides of the equation by the denominator of the fraction. In this case, the denominator is 5, so we will multiply both sides by 5:

5 * (8 - 2x) = 5 * (6/5).

This simplifies to: 40 - 10x = 6.

Step 3: Solve for x. We need to isolate x on one side of the equation. Start by subtracting 40 from both sides:

40 - 40 - 10x = 6 - 40.

This simplifies to: -10x = -34.

Step 4: Divide both sides by -10 to solve for x:

-10x / -10 = -34 / -10.

This simplifies to: x = 3.4.

So the value of x is 3.4.

Examples to try on your own:

1. Solve the equation 2x + 5 = 15.

Step 1: Simplify the equation, which is already in its simplest form.

Step 2: Isolate x by subtracting 5 from both sides:

2x + 5 - 5 = 15 - 5.

This simplifies to: 2x = 10.

Step 3: Solve for x by dividing both sides by 2:

2x / 2 = 10 / 2.

This simplifies to: x = 5.

So the value of x is 5.

2. Solve the equation 3(x + 4) = 27.

Step 1: Simplify the equation by distributing the 3:

3x + 12 = 27.

Step 2: Isolate x by subtracting 12 from both sides:

3x + 12 - 12 = 27 - 12.

This simplifies to: 3x = 15.

Step 3: Solve for x by dividing both sides by 3:

3x / 3 = 15 / 3.

This simplifies to: x = 5.

So the value of x is 5.

Remember to always check your solution by substituting the value of x back into the original equation to ensure it holds true.
