To add fractions with different denominators like 3/4 and 1/3, we need to find a common denominator. The common denominator in this case is 12, which is the least common multiple of 4 and 3.

To convert the fractions to have a denominator of 12, we multiply the numerator and denominator of each fraction by the same number.

For 3/4, we multiply both the numerator and denominator by 3: (3/4) * (3/3) = 9/12.

For 1/3, we multiply both the numerator and denominator by 4: (1/3) * (4/4) = 4/12.

Now that both fractions have the same denominator of 12, we can add them: 9/12 + 4/12 = (9 + 4) / 12 = 13/12.

So the sum of 3/4 and 1/3 is 13/12.
