I did (2)(8)^2(5)(8)
(2)64(5)(8)
128(5)(8)
128(40)
128=40= 88
I believe this is correct but I want to make sure.

128=40= 88 makes no sense,
It is probably a typo, since the + and = are only a "shift" away from each other.
