Is latitude the up and down lines on a map?Or the side to side lines?

Thanks

Wouldn't it depend on how you hung your map? If N is up, then latitudes are the lines parallel to the equator..horizontal.

Latitudes are the west-to-east lines.

One way to remember the difference is that longitude goes the long way -- up and down.

Thanks!

You're welcome.

Latitude refers to the horizontal lines on a map, running parallel to the equator. These lines measure the distance north or south of the equator. They are also known as parallels.

To visualize latitude on a map, imagine the equator as the middle line wrapping around the Earth horizontally. The lines above the equator are measures of latitude in the Northern Hemisphere, while those below the equator are in the Southern Hemisphere. Latitude lines are numbered from 0 degrees at the equator to 90 degrees at the poles.

To determine the latitude of a specific location on a map, you can use various tools or methods such as referencing latitude values on the map's grid, consulting geographic information systems (GIS) software, or utilizing online maps or resources that display latitude lines. Alternatively, you can find latitude coordinates using a global positioning system (GPS) device or smartphone app.
