Can you help me solve this problem by elimination?
4x-2y=16
5x+7y=1

  • Elementary Algebra -

    divide the first by 2, then solve for y
    y = 2x-8
    sub into the second
    5x + 7(2x-8) = 1
    19x = 57
    x = 3
    then y = 2(3) - 8 = -2
