Since I'm in the NJHS. Is there any community service hours ideas because the advisor will give us community service hours sheet. Just to let you know I'm going to the 8th grade. My goal is to complete 300 community service hours.

Is there any sites that have list of ideas.

So far I got:
- tutoring
- working at the library
- neighbor to neighbor gardening program: we meet every Wednesday after school (we have 3 session, I just finish my first session back in June and my 2nd one is this fall) from 4 to 6 pm which for 2 hours. I'm wondering if this count as community service hours.

also I want to know some of them that involved art and maybe writing

You'll find many ideas in these sites.

As for art and writing, you might be able to help senior citizens with art and writing projects in a senior center or nursing home.

thanks for the info.

but how????? (for the writing)

all i got is writing a community service essay

Some senior centers encourage and help their clients write their memoirs. I'm sure these writers would appreciate the input from a young person.

You could check with a local senior center.

that also a great idea

thank you ms. sue for the info and that idea! :)

You're very welcome, Laruen. Enjoy your community service. :-)

Congratulations on being a part of NJHS and setting a goal to complete 300 community service hours! That's a commendable ambition.

To find a list of community service ideas, you can explore various websites that can provide you with a wide range of options. Here are a few websites that can help you find ideas for community service:

1. National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) website: Check your NJHS website for any specific community service opportunities they may provide or recommend.

2. VolunteerMatch (https://www.volunteermatch.org/): This website connects volunteers with organizations in need. You can search for opportunities based on your location, interests, and availability.

3. DoSomething (https://www.dosomething.org/us): This organization offers a variety of youth-led volunteer campaigns. They focus on creating social change and offer different categories of service to choose from.

4. Idealist (https://www.idealist.org/): Idealist allows you to search for volunteer opportunities by location, cause, and type of work. They also have remote volunteer options, which can be helpful during COVID-19 restrictions.

Remember, community service hours are typically earned by providing unpaid assistance to organizations or individuals in need. It's advisable to check with your NJHS advisor regarding specific guidelines for counting hours, as each chapter might have slightly different requirements.

Regarding your question about the "neighbor to neighbor gardening program," it sounds like a wonderful initiative to help your neighbors. However, the final decision on whether it counts towards your community service hours rests with your NJHS advisor. They can provide the necessary guidance based on your chapter's guidelines.

Remember to keep track of your hours diligently by logging the dates, hours worked, and activities performed for each service opportunity. This will provide documentation for your records and make it easier to submit your hours when required.

Best of luck with your volunteer journey and reaching your community service goal!
