how to calculate the % oil of thyme in thyme ?

We did an experiment titled : the extraction of Thymol in thyme oil and the prof wants us to calculate the % oil of thyme in thyme... how do I do that ?

Thanks

To calculate the percentage of oil in thyme, you will need to know the amount of thyme oil extracted and the total weight of the thyme used. Here is how you can calculate it:

1. Determine the weight of the thyme oil extracted during the experiment. This can be done by measuring the volume of the extracted oil using a graduated cylinder and converting that volume to grams if necessary. Alternatively, if you already have the weight of the thyme oil, proceed to the next step.

2. Weigh the total amount of thyme used in the experiment. This includes all the thyme leaves or other forms of thyme that were used for extraction.

3. Calculate the percentage of oil in thyme using the following formula:

Percentage of oil in thyme = (Weight of thyme oil / Weight of thyme) x 100

Substitute the values you obtained in step 1 and 2 into the formula and perform the calculation to find the percentage of oil in thyme.

For example, if you extracted 4 grams of thyme oil from 20 grams of thyme, the calculation would be:

(4 grams / 20 grams) x 100 = 20% oil in thyme

So, the percentage of oil in thyme in this case would be 20%.

Make sure to double-check your calculations and verify that the units are consistent throughout the calculation.
