I am trying to remember how to figure out which fraction is the greatest/least. Do i have to find the common denominator? An example would be 1/4, 3/8, 6/10, 1/7 ... kind of like this, only many more ... Thank you.

You have two ways of figuring out which order they should be.

One is to find the common denominator and convert all of the fractions to equivalent fractions.

The other way is to find their decimal equivalents.

Can you please explain to me how to change them into decimals? The fractions i used are just made up so you can use any fraction you would like to show me. Thank you.

Use a calculator and divide the numerator by the denominator.

1/4 = 0.25
3/8 = 0.375

To compare fractions and determine which one is the greatest or least, you typically find a common denominator. Having a common denominator makes it easier to directly compare the numerators of the fractions.

Here's how you can compare the fractions 1/4, 3/8, 6/10, and 1/7:

Step 1: Find a common denominator.
In this case, we can find a common denominator by multiplying the denominators of all the fractions together. Here, the denominators are 4, 8, 10, and 7, respectively. Multiplying them, we get 4 * 8 * 10 * 7 = 2240.

Step 2: Rewrite the fractions with the common denominator.
Take each fraction and rewrite it with the common denominator of 2240. To do this, multiply both the numerator and denominator of each fraction by the necessary factor to achieve the common denominator.

1/4 = (1 * 560) / (4 * 560) = 560/2240
3/8 = (3 * 280) / (8 * 280) = 840/2240
6/10 = (6 * 224) / (10 * 224) = 1344/2240
1/7 = (1 * 320) / (7 * 320) = 320/2240

Step 3: Compare the numerators.
Now that all the fractions have a common denominator, you can compare their numerators to determine which one is the greatest or least. In this case, we have:

1/4 = 560/2240
3/8 = 840/2240
6/10 = 1344/2240
1/7 = 320/2240

Comparing the numerators directly, you can see that 1344 is the greatest numerator, so the fraction 6/10 (or 3/5 in simplified form) is the greatest. Similarly, 320 is the least numerator, so the fraction 1/7 is the least.

Remember that once you have a common denominator, you can also simplify the fractions to their simplest form to make the comparison easier.
