Car A passes a light post moving at 25m/s and continues at this speed. Two seconds later, another car passes the light post moving at 40m/s. Assuming no acceleration of either car.

a)How much time will it take for the second car to catch up with the first car?
b)How far from the post are the cars when they meet.

  • Physics -

    a) X1 = 25 t (t>0s)
    X2 = 40(t-2) (t>2s)

    Set X1 = X2 and solve for t.

    25t = 40t -80
    15t = 80
    t = ____
    b) Use the t from (a) and either X equation.
