The SAT consists of three parts, each 800 points, or 2400 points. Prior to the adding of the SAT Writing, the top score was 1600, the new writing section is now an additional 800 points.

The top score for ACT is 36. I have had three high school students of mine score that.

Ok. Thank You!!! :)

The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) has actually undergone some major changes over the years. Prior to 2005, the SAT had a total score of 1600. However, in 2005, the College Board, which administers the SAT, introduced a new format and added a writing section, resulting in a maximum score of 2400. This new format was used until 2016.

But starting from March 2016, the SAT went through another revision. The current SAT is now scored on a scale of 400-1600, with two sections - Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing - each scored from 200 to 800. The optional Essay section is scored separately.

As for the ACT (American College Testing), it has always been scored on a scale of 1 to 36. Each of the four sections (English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science) is scored individually, and then an average composite score is computed.

So, to summarize:
- The previous version of the SAT had a maximum score of 2400.
- The current SAT has a maximum score of 1600.
- The ACT has a maximum score of 36.
