how do i work out 7.25/0.25 without using a calculator???

  • maths -

Move the decimal point in the divisor to make it a whole number >> 0.25 = 25

Since you have two decimal places in the divisor, move the decimal two places to the right in the dividend. >> 7.25 = 725

Now simply divide 25 into 725.

  • maths -

When you divide by 0.25, you can multiply the denominator by 4 instead.
    So 7.25*4 = (7*4 + 0.25*4)=28 + 1 = 29

  • maths - correction -

When you divide by 0.25, you can multiply the numerator by 4 instead.
    So 7.25*4 = (7*4 + 0.25*4)=28 + 1 = 29
