The region of the solar system between Mars and Jupiter contains many asteroids that orbit the Sun. Consider an asteroid in a circular orbit of radius 4.0 1011 m. Find the period of the orbit IN SECONDS!!!???

  • Physics -

    To get the Period P in years, put the radius R in a.u. and use the Kepler formula, P^2 = R^3

    1 a.u = 1.496*10^11 m

    R = 4.0*10^11 m = 2.67 a.u.
    P = 4.36 years

    Now convert that to seconds.
