I am checking my child's homework. Can you help?

During what years was the Civil War fought? My child's answer is- The Civil War was fought over the span of four years. I really do not think this is the answer the teacher will be looking for. What do you think? I thought the answer might be between 1860-1865!

I think it started in 1861; therefore, 1861-1865.

That's what I am finding with several different sites on a web search as well. You may want to confirm--JJ

JJ is correct.

You're correct! The Civil War was fought between the years 1861 and 1865. To arrive at this answer, you need to have a basic understanding of historical events. Here's a step-by-step breakdown on how to determine the years of the Civil War:

1. Identify the event: In this case, the event in question is the Civil War.

2. Research the topic: Use reliable sources such as history books, encyclopedias, or reputable websites to find accurate information about the Civil War.

3. Determine the start year: The Civil War began in April 1861 with the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter.

4. Determine the end year: The Civil War officially ended on April 9, 1865, when General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House.

5. Calculate the duration: Subtract the start year from the end year to calculate the duration of the war. In this case, 1865 - 1861 gives us a duration of four years.
