could someone please help solve by substitution 8x3y=88
4x+48=y

8 x  3 y = 88
8 x  3 (4 x + 48) = 88
8 x  12 x  144 = 88
4 x = 56
x = 14
then get y
x 30 sec or .5 min
y 60 sec or 1 min
x + y = 14
.5 x + y = 11
 subtract
.5 x + 0 y = 3
x = 6
y = 14x = 8

check
6*.5 + 8 = 3+8 = 11
