Hi!

I need help. I have worked out total rainfall, I have the monthly average (given by beauro) and I worked out the mean rainfall each month.

My teacher says I need to work out the amount of rainfall in m-cubed that would fall on the roof each month.

How would I do this?

ps. i have worked out the roofs dimensions...

Multiply the area of the roof in square meters by the monthly rainfall in meters. Treat the roof as if it were horizontal and flat.

Thank-you!

I had the same problem, just wanted to clarify

To calculate the amount of rainfall in cubic meters (m³) that would fall on the roof each month, you will need to perform a conversion using the monthly average rainfall and the dimensions of the roof.

Here are the steps to follow:

1. Convert the monthly average rainfall from the given unit (e.g., millimeters, inches) to meters. Make sure the units are consistent throughout your calculation.

2. Calculate the area of the roof. Multiply the length of the roof by its width to get the surface area in square meters (m²).

3. Multiply the monthly average rainfall (converted to meters) by the roof's surface area. This will give you the volume of rainfall that would fall on the roof each month in cubic meters (m³).

Here's an example to illustrate the calculation:

Let's say the monthly average rainfall is given in millimeters (mm), and the roof dimensions are 10 meters by 5 meters.

1. Convert the monthly average rainfall to meters:
- For instance, if the monthly average rainfall is 100 mm, convert it to meters by dividing by 1000:
100 mm / 1000 = 0.1 meters

2. Calculate the roof's surface area:
- Multiply the length (10 meters) by the width (5 meters):
10 meters * 5 meters = 50 square meters (m²)

3. Multiply the monthly average rainfall (in meters) by the roof's surface area:
- Given the converted average rainfall of 0.1 meters and the roof's area of 50 square meters:
0.1 meters * 50 square meters = 5 cubic meters (m³)

Therefore, the amount of rainfall in cubic meters that would fall on the roof each month is 5 m³.

Please plug in your specific values for the monthly average rainfall and roof dimensions to calculate the specific amount for your scenario.
