what does x equal if x/4-3x/2=-1/2

  • MATH -

    3x/2=(3*2*x)/(2*2)=6x/4

    x/4-3x/2=(x/4)-(6x/4)= -5x/4

  • MATH -

    -5x/4= -1/2 Multiply with 4

    -5x= -(1/2)*4

    -5x= -2 Divide with -5

    x=(-2)/(-5)

    x=2/5

    x=0.4

  • MATH -

    simplest way:

    x/4 - 3x/2 = -1/2
    multiply each term by 4
    x - 6x = -2
    -5x = -2
    x = 2/5
