3/4 of a dollar = \$0.75 (75 cents)

1/10 of a dollar = \$0.10 (10 cents)

75 + 10 = ?

3/4=(3*5)/(4*5)=15/20

1/10=(1*2)/(10*2)=2/20

(3/4)+(1/10)=(15/20)+(2/20)=17/20= 0.85\$
