In one mole of the compound nitrogen diox-
ide, what fraction of the total number of ions is the nitrogen ion?

    Zero. There are no ions in NO2, it is almost entirely a covalent compound.

    Now if you look at atoms, 1/3 of the atoms are Nitrogen atoms.
