i was shown example:

x+6=-5
6=-5
6--5=x
x=-11

please explain to me how they got this

6=-5
6--5=x
x=-11

For line 1 , add -6 to both sides to get value of x
this will give x +6 -6 = -5 -6

ie. x + 0 = -11
ie X = -11
