Thank you very much for your corrections. Here are some more sentences I'd like you to check.

1) Elizabeth encouraged the (?) piracy because she took a share of the profits.
2) Sea captains captured the Spanish ships which traded precious metal(s), tobacco and slaves from Africa to America.
3) Unlike the Italian Renaissance, the English one (?) lacked the connection with the visual arts.
4) In foreign policy (With regard to foreign policy) Elizabeth's main achievement was the war with Spain.
5) At the beginning she avoided open war with Spain and encouraged piracy, making England a commerial and seafaring power.
6) Unlike Spanish ships, English ones were lower, faster and armed with long-range guns.
7)In the Prologue, Chaucer speaks about (describes?) Zephyrus, which blows over (not "on") each grove.
8) In the tales the characters (the pilgrims) are on a pilgrimage to visit the shrine of Thomas Becket.
